Argentina and SA: More than World Cup

South Africa and Argentina have more to contribute to the world this year than the buzz around the World Cup 2010. Achieving Oscar's Nomination for Best Film (District 9) and Argentina's movie "El Secreto de sus ojos" (The secret in their eyes) for best Foreign Language Film is clear that more surprises are to come.
    district 9 screen shot
“El Secreto de Sus Ojos” is a film written and directed by Juan Jose Campanella who apart from being nominated before with “El Hijo de la Novia”(Son of the Bride-2001) is also recognized guest director and writer of different episodes of series such as “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.”, House M.D. and 30 Rock.

El Secreto de sus ojos is a wonderful and intense combination of crime, mystery, drama and romance around the way a man uncovers a decade’s old crime that happened in the 1970’s when Argentina is engulfed in what is called the years of terror, where para state actions generated the conditions for the military coup in 1976. With romance as a frame and time traveling over 30 years in his research he finds some photographs where a man is sending strange glances to the victim, which may lead to the real murderer. Still beautifully it gives the hopeful message that justice always arrives even though it may take many years being the best example the Argentinean people reflected wisely in this film.

As District 9 for many is a flawless film and nothing that envies Hollywood best films. Both films seem to put viewers in front of humanly characters that allow self-recognition and best of all both films seem to gather all genres in such a way that is a delight for the viewer. There is nothing more to say that hoping that both are praised with the deserved award.
