No more living on public land in Mogadishu

    Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government (TFG) wants anyone who illegally sleeps under a roof erected on any community land whether in learning institutions, hospitals or any other public amenities to voluntarily evacuate him or shelf before the government might take a legal action to do so, according to media reports.
    The reports add it is believed that hundreds of families and individuals are staying in various public land including at least 90 schools mainly across the country’s capital city, Mogadishu.
    On Monday President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed paid an official visit to Hamarweyne, one of Mogadishu‘s main shopping centers which recently families and individuals voluntarily pulled themselves out there. On Sunday was the closing date given to people to stay out of government buildings, Hiiraan online has reported. But a big question might be how it would be an easy task to see all public areas are to be returned in a short era without any element of resistance after a 20 year term of illegal occupation.
    Somalia has not had an effective government since former president Mohamed Siyad Barre regime was militarily overthrown in 1991.
    Sharif said that government wants to refurbish all public premises in order to serve for its people.
    “We want to renovate all public institutions so that our various government departments or ministries to work smoothly. We want our children to get education, said President Sharif.
    This development emerges when TFG soldiers backed by a strong battalion from African Union Mission in Somalia AMISOM are battling with Somalia’s most influential insurgent group Al-shabab. But recently insurgent fighters’ attacks seemed to be fatigue.
    President expressed his thankfulness to those who handed over the control of the mall to the government without any reluctance.
    “It is a big change that shows how people are ready to co-operate with their government in order to move ahead. This is a big change that Mogadishu is today experiencing, said Sharif while being taken round in the market alongside with his some cabinet officials.
