OPINION: Negative results of Alpha Condé’s presidency

The result of Alpha Condé's one year in power is in general negative. Some even consider it as a disaster. First of all, In terms of freedom and human rights Guinea is going backwards because the violation of human rights and freedom are at their height as journalists are threatened on daily basis.

Besides, the economic situation is worrying because life is getting harder and harder. National economic operators are fleeing the country. The basic social services are far from being satisfied.

Although international monetary fund said the government made a little progress there is no impact on Guineans’ life. The president travelled abroad more than 20 times during the year 2011. Each trip estimated to more than 600,000 $ per trip. So he uselessly spent an average amount of 1 billion and 2 hundred million dollars on trips last year.

On April 03rd 2011, a big reception organized for the return of Cellou Dalein had been violently repressed by security services. Zakariou Diallo, a young teenager had been coldly shot dead by security forces. Other militants of Cellou Dalein had been chased and beaten by security forces. Ever since there is no justice to sentence the author of this crime.

On July 19th a so-called attack of A C private residence was organized in order to get rid of all disturbing people to the regime. As a result more than 40 had been illegally arrested and imprisoned without any trial. Among them Nouhou Thiam, Bachir Diallo, El Hadj Alpha Lafou, Hadia Fatou Badiar, Baba Alimou Barry, Alpha Saliou Wann, thierno Sadou Diallo.

Moreover opposition leaders, businessmen and the Fulani ethnic group are accused of organizing this attack. Consequently Bah Oury an opposition leader and U F D G vice president, Tibou Camara and Diallo Sadakadji are accused of being the main organizers of this attack. They are compelled to go to exile in order to save their lives. Bah Oury’s house had been looted by soldiers in search of weapons.

Alpha Condé controls all the powers (executive, judiciary, legislative). 90% of appointed civil servants are Mandingo, from Alpha Condé ethnic group. Other ethnic groups mostly Fulani are simply replaced by Mandingos.

This situation had been confirmed by the investigation report of Human rights Witch. It encourages favoritism, ethnocentrism, corruption and nepotism instead of competence. Alpha Condé and his government refused to organize legislative elections until they created all the cheating programs. Whereas the deadline allowed by the constitution is 6 months between the presidential and legislative elections.

On September 27th during a peaceful protest March against Alpha Condé’s dictatorship 700 opposition militants had been arrested and 400 of them had been illegally judged and sentenced. Foulani opposition militants belonging to Cellou Dalein’s ethnic group had been threatened beaten and arrested by security services. Moreover, Etienne Soropogui an opposition activist and Vice President of N FD political Party had been illegally arrested imprisoned, tried, sentenced and released by the justice.

Forest Guinea which was a peaceful region has registered the record of inter comminatory violence and conflict.

On May 4th an inter comminatory conflict broke between forest natives and Mandingos in Galapaye, Yomou prefecture. Accordingly more than 50 people had been burnt alive (for more evidence look at the picture which reminds Nazism era).

In June 2011 in Saoro village, villagers had been expropriated from their lands. When they protested against this situation, they had been violently repressed by security services. One person had been shot dead. Many people injured and a woman raped.

From July 4th to July 14th cattle belonging to Fulani ethnic group had been wildly slaughtered by Mandingos in lola and beyla.

In October, in Lola a demonstration against discrimination in employment by the mining company exploiting Nimba iron had been bloodily repressed. One person had been killed many other injured during this repression. Farmers of region are arbitrary prevented from selling their rice the other regions of Guinea.

In Labé, Bah Souleymane a young CNT member had been kidnapped and put in jail in Conakry. In the same circumstances Toumba Daikité’s family is persecuted in Conakry and his brother Alseny Diakité arrested and killed by torture in a gendarmerie in Conakry.

In Kankan, a reception organized for PEDN leader Lansana Kouyaté had been dispersed by police tear gas. Militants hiding in Cherifouya mosque had been chased by the police. In consequence many people had been injured.

Amadou Diallo who had been elected by the majority of CNTG Trade Union during a congress supervised by OIT (Labor International Organization) had been threatened and attacked by a minority lead by Yamoussa Touré in Alpha Condé’s pay.

Amadou Diallo escapes death from an attack of his house at night by soldiers wearing masks. The trade union elected members are often threatened by Alpha Condé himself and other Guinean authorities. Recently the International Trade Union Confederation made complaint against the Guinean government for their interference in trade union affairs.

The only positive actions that the president is waving nowadays the relationships reestablishment with international institutions, the hiring of 25 power plants and the supply of fertilizers to farmers.

Many observers fear a popular uprising in the whole country because of the hard life and the confusing situation. Many people who voted for Alpha are hopeless and disappointed nowadays.
