The whole Bazaruto Archipelago is part of a conservation project and is a protected National Park, making it the only official marine reserve in the country.

It attracts nature lovers and water sports enthusiasts, like scuba diving  or snorkeling in the azure coloured waters  around the many coral reefs.

For birding enthusiasts, more than 160 different birds have been identified in habitats varying from coastal dunes, open grasslands and numerous sandbanks along the unspoiled  sandy beaches.

The coral reefs are home to thousands of fish and coral  and marine mammals species. The largest dugong population along the Eastern African coast can be found here, dolphin, hump back whales, whale sharks, manta and spotted eagle rays and different species of turtles.
