Five Heads of States were in attendance to grace the inauguration ceremony of Sierra Leone's newly elected President Ernest Bai Koroma, among them Africa's only female President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President Umaru Musa Yaradua of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria, President Yaya Jammeh of Gambia, Burkina Faso's Blaise Campaoire and Senegalese President Abdoulay Wade.

President John Kuffour of Ghana was expected but due to his recent accident, he was represented by an envoy from Ghana. Also Prime Ministers of Guinea and Ivory coast, representatives from the United Kingdom and The United States were all in attendance.
In what has been described as the most colourful inauguration ceremony in the West African sub-region, the newly elected President emphasized and urged all Sierra Leoneans to change their attitudes for the development of this country.
“We have been used to doing things in one particular way," said Koroma to a jam packed stadium of more than 35,000. “We must now be prepared to embrace change.”
This is what Former President Kabba has to say just before handing over the staff of office “I wish you well, I wish you the best in your endeavour." He concluded: “I hope the people of Sierra Leone will get what they want. I’m happy to hand over the staff to Ernest Koroma."
It could be recalled that President Koroma came to power after a decisively contested election between Koroma’s All People’s Congress and the Former Ruling Sierra Leone’s Peoples Party.
